All Hands and Hearts - Smart Response
Now our Hurricane Michael Rapid Response team is jumping into action and is preparing to get boots on the ground to determine where we can help. Based on years of experience, we believe we can best serve these affected communities with mucking and gutting, mold sanitation, debris removal, and debris cleaning.
Feeding Tampa Bay
The devastation from Hurricane Michael has been tremendous and we are rallying our resources to offer as much help as we can. Our disaster relief page has a lot of information regarding our relief efforts. Thus far, we've sent a truck and a driver as well as two truckloads of water, MREs and other food items. We are planning to send four more truckloads today. We are in constant communication with regional, state and national affiliates to asses the need and make sure we are sending items to areas that are most impacted. We are activating volunteers to sort and pack food to be sent in another load next week.
Direct Relief staff have contacted 190 partner health facilities in the storm’s projected path in Florida, Georgia, and the Carolinas, and will be responding when medical aid is requested. 10 facilities in Hurricane Michael’s path already have emergency medical packs prepositioned for staff to use, as part of Direct Relief’s hurricane preparedness program. Each pack contains enough medicines and supplies to treat 100 patients for 3 to 5 days and includes medicines to manage chronic conditions like diabetes and high blood pressure.
American National Red Cross
The American Red Cross is preparing across Alabama, Florida and Georgia in anticipation of the arrival of Hurricane Michael. Some of the preparations include opening evacuation centers, movement of relief supplies and activation of response headquarters to prepare and respond to any impacts experienced as a result of the storm. The Red Cross is mobilizing trained volunteers, shelter supplies and other equipment preparing to provide shelter for tens of thousands of people until they can return home.
