GiveDirectly

GiveDirectly transfers cash to poor households in low-income countries primarily via mobile phone-linked payment services. It has operated since 2009 and is currently active in Kenya, Uganda, and Rwanda (launched in October 2016). To date, GiveDirectly has primarily provided large, one-time transfers. It recently started a basic income guarantee program, in which recipients will receive long-term (over two or twelve years in the initial study), ongoing cash transfers sufficient for basic needs.

Against Malaria Foundation

AMF (againstmalaria.com) provides funding for long-lasting insecticide-treated net (LLIN) distributions (for protection against malaria) in developing countries. There is strong evidence that distributing LLINs reduces child mortality and malaria cases. AMF conducts post-distribution surveys of completed distributions to determine whether LLINs have reached their intended destinations and how long they remain in good condition. AMF's post-distribution surveys have generally found positive results, with some exceptions, but have some methodological limitations and surveys in several recent distributions have been delayed.

D Rev Design For The Other Ninety Percent

D-Rev (short for “Design Revolution”) designs and delivers affordable, innovative medical devices that protect and transform lives of the global poor. The organization addresses global health inequities, recognizing that health is a prerequisite to autonomy and self-sufficiency. D-Rev's current product, Brilliance, is a highly affordable, contextually appropriate, phototherapy machine for treating jaundice in newborns. The company plans to expand its portfolio to a total of 10 products in maternal, newborn and child health by 2030.

Malaria Consortium US

Malaria Consortium (malariaconsortium.org) works on preventing, controlling, and treating malaria and other communicable diseases in Africa and Asia. We have only reviewed its seasonal malaria chemoprevention (SMC) program, which distributes preventive anti-malarial drugs to children 3 to 59 months old in order to prevent illness and death from malaria; our recommendation is just for this part of Malaria Consortium's work.

Deworm the World Inc.

The Deworm the World Initiative is now a project of Evidence Action. All donations and inquiries should be directed to Evidence Action. Deworm the World, as a program of Evidence Action, improves the health and education of school-age children across the globe by supporting governments and development partners to expand national and state school-based deworming programs.

The Fistula Foundation

Fistula Foundation believes that no woman should have to suffer a life of shame and isolation simply for trying to bring a child into the world. We are dedicated to raising awareness of and funding for fistula treatment in Africa and Asia. Fistula Foundation adheres to the highest standards for solicitation, granting, and accountability of its funds. Fistula Foundation funds programs that have a financial need, demonstrate that the funds will be used responsibly, in a timely manner, have accurate financial statements, provide detailed grant applications, and produce reasonable and timely reporting which allows Fistula Foundation to ensure it will meet its fiduciary duties.

Population Services International

PSI makes it easier for people in the developing world to lead healthier lives and plan families they desire by marketing affordable products and services. PSI's global health network of more than 50 local organizations focuses on serious challenges like a lack of family planning, HIV and AIDS, barriers to maternal health, and the greatest threats to children under five, including malaria, diarrhea, pneumonia and malnutrition. A hallmark of PSI is a commitment to the principle that health services and products are most effective when they are accompanied by robust communications and distribution efforts that help ensure wide acceptance and proper use. PSI works in partnership with local governments, ministries of health and local organizations to create health solutions that are built to last.

The END Fund

Concentrates on de-worming (very cost-effective) and neglected tropical diseases (NTDs).
